Project Description
This project aims to strengthen the universalization and national implementation of the Arms Trade Treaty (ATT) by supporting the ATT Secretariat in implementing its Voluntary Trust Fund (VTF) activities. The VTF assists requesting states in implementing their Treaty obligations including providing legal or legislative assistance to requesting states providing technical assistance to requesting states and building the institutional capacity of requesting states.
Expected Results
The expected outcome of this project is the strengthened capacity of Arms Trade Treaty (ATT) States Parties to implement their national obligations under the ATT effectively.
Progress & Results Achieved
Results achieved as of the end of the project (December 2021) by the Arms Trade Treaty Secretariat through the support of the Government of Canada and other international donors include: (1) the organization and delivery of workshops by the Government of Togo to train its defence and security officers in the safe and secure management of weapons and ammunition stocks to prevent diversion; and (2) the implementation of a further 15 initiatives in Africa and five in Latin America and the Caribbean.
