Project Description

The project aims to improve the resilience of women men girls and boys to climate change-related food insecurity especially addressing its gendered impacts. It seeks to: (1) increase the practice of gender-responsive climate-smart agriculture thus increasing peoples’ access to diverse foods; and (2) increase women’s participation in decision-making at the local level. The project supports vulnerable women-headed households who are reliant on subsistence farming. Project activities include: (1) promoting gender-responsive climate-smart agriculture technologies the use of drought-resistant varieties of beans and maize community seed banks and community garden planting to help increase women’s incomes; (2) providing training on entrepreneurship and financial management market links gender equality women’s rights and leadership to women’s groups; and (3) conducting gender sensitization sessions for women and men leaders youth and male family members to increase community support for women to participate in decision-making. The project aims to directly impact 3 345 direct beneficiaries (of which 1 750 women and girls) and 6 500 indirect beneficiaries for a total of nearly 10 000 people reached. The project is implemented by Casa-Pueblito with partners including Gloria Quintanilla Women’s Cooperative UCA Tierra y Agua Community of Jiñocua and Hogar Luceros del Amanecer.

Expected Results

The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) increased implementation of gender-responsive climate-smart agriculture technologies and techniques; and (2) increased participation of women in gender-responsive climate-smart agriculture decision-making at the local level.
