Project Description
This project contributes to the joint donor Education Sector Support Fund (FASE) to respond to the impact of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic on the national education system in Mozambique. FASE funds support Mozambique’s Ministry of Education and Human Development in providing children and adults with access to quality education and literacy programs so that they learn and succeed. This project provides additional funds to the Ministry to implement specific activities of its COVID-19 Response Plan during the 2021 academic year. Project activities include: (1) sensitizing school communities on COVID-19 symptoms forms of transmission and prevention and control measures; (2) adjusting teaching and learning methods to enable schooling to continue including using radio television and online distance-learning programs and providing psychosocial and violence prevention programs; and (3) promoting the safe return to school by ensuring access to water sanitation and hygiene to meet COVID-19 prevention measures and the needs of girls and children with special needs.
Expected Results
The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) improved awareness of parents and community leaders of the importance of continuing the education of children especially girls during and after the pandemic; (2) increased capacity of teaching and administrative staff to provide services in the context of COVID-19; and (3) enhanced access to educational services for children and especially girls and those with vulnerabilities during the COVID-19 pandemic.
