Project Description

January 2021 - The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) is mandated by the United Nations General Assembly to advocate for the protection of children's rights to help meet their basic needs and to expand their opportunities to reach their full potential. UNICEF works in developing countries through its development and humanitarian assistance programming to fulfill its mandate including promoting the equal rights of girls and women and to support their full participation in the political social and economic development of their communities. With the support of GAC and other donors UNICEF will fulfill its mandate. Project activities include: (1) providing lifesaving assistance to children adolescents and families including migrant populations affected by crises through safe water sanitation and hygiene facilities (WASH) health and nutrition and emergency education; and (2)providing child protection safe spaces including gender-based violence (GBV) risk mitigation prevention or response interventions for children and women.

Expected Results

The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) increased access to safe drinking water sanitation facilities and hygiene education; (2) treatment for severe acute malnutrition including for pregnant and lactating women; (3) access to learning materials school enrollment and attendance; (4) increased access to protection services particularly for children and women including gender-based violence risk mitigation prevention or response; and (5) increased access to basic health care services while supporting public health responses to reduce COVID-19 transmission and mortality. The expected ultimate outcome is lives saved suffering alleviated and human dignity maintained for populations experiencing humanitarian crises or acute food insecurity.
