Project Description
March 2021 - An estimated 3.5 million people are in need of humanitarian and protection assistance in Burkina Faso. The upsurge in violence over the last two years has forced more than one million people to flee their homes many of whom have been displaced several times. Hundreds of health facilities are operating at a minimum service due to the insecurity. With GAC’s support CARE Canada is providing emergency protection and sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) assistance to 38 400 people affected by conflict and displacement. Project activities include: (1) providing training and support to protection committees to build community capacity for identifying and referring survivors of gender-based violence (GBV) particularly women and girls to available services and resources; (2) providing cash and/or hygiene items to particularly vulnerable households including women-headed households; (3) organizing community mobilisation/sensitisation on GBV prevention targeting men and boys; and (4) increasing community awareness on SRHR and services.
Expected Results
The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) increased utilisation of community-based protection and GBV-related resources for both internally displaced persons and host communities; and (2) increased and more equitable access to sexual and reproductive health and services in conflict-affected communities particularly women and girls. The expected ultimate outcome is lives saved suffering alleviated and human dignity maintained in crisis-affected communities in Burkina Faso
