Project Description
This project aims to provide continued access to essential family planning services and quality information on reproductive health mindful of coronavirus (COVID-19) for men women and girls of reproductive age in eight regions of Burkina Faso. The project aims to cover broader family planning activities and make it easier to mobilize other resources to ensure family planning interventions are sustainable. To achieve this the project seeks to ensure that women men and youth have continued access to quality information on reproductive health family planning and COVID 19 to break down the social barriers that prevent women and girls from exercising their reproductive rights. Project activities include: (1) identifying and supporting private health facilities for the provision of family planning and gender-based violence; (2) providing personal protection kits products for hand hygiene and treatment of instruments for safety of staff and women; and (3) conducting health promotion activities on reproductive health family planning and gender-based violence in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Expected Results
The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) strengthening the creation of demand for family planning services for women men young girls and boys in the context of COVID-19; (2) creating favorable and safe conditions for the provision of quality family planning services including the protection of beneficiaries from gender-based violence and COVID-19; and (3) strengthening the continuous availability of vital sexual and reproductive health commodities including clinical management of rape and contraceptive commodities in public and private facilities and at the community level for the provision of services in hard-to-reach communities.
Progress & Results Achieved
Results achieved as of the end of the project (June 2023) include: (1) trained 150 women's house animators and 1 436 members of women's and youth associations on reproductive health family planning gender-based violence and COVID-19; (2) provided protective equipment against COVID-19 (hand-washing and client referral devices masks etc.) to 42 target health districts; (3) trained 1 556 public and private providers (795 women and 761 men) on human rights-based clinical family planning; (4) trained 1 491 community-based health workers including 687 women in community-based distribution of family planning prevention of gender-based violence and COVID-19; and (5) trained 1 567 persons (839 women and 828 men) on front-line support for women victims of intimate partner violence and other gender-based violence. The training also covered clinical management of rape cases and case referral. The project provided psychosocial health and legal support nationwide to 4 280 cases of gender-based violence.
