Project Description
This project supports the establishment and operation of a certified and sustainable nuclear security support centre within Thailand's Office of Atoms for Peace. Project activities include (1) the development of a skills and competency framework for positions identified as requiring nuclear security training; (2) the development of a national nuclear security-training programme; (3) the organization of a train-the-trainer program for local Thai specialists; (4) translation of the World Institute for Nuclear Security (WINS) Academy Radioactive Source Security Management module and exam into the Thai language; (5) the development of nuclear security training materials and delivery of three in-person courses for a group of 24 Thai participants; and (6) the provision of WINS Academy scholarships to sixty Thai specialists.
Expected Results
The expected outcome for this project is an improved prevention detection and/or response to the proliferation of WMD Weapons of mass Destruction and related materials by Thai nuclear security stakeholders guided by gender considerations wherever possible.
Progress & Results Achieved
Results achieved as of the end of the project (September 2022) include: (1) developed a national nuclear security training strategy in Thailand; (2) nine Thai nuclear security professionals successfully completed training as instructors; and (3) Thailand’s Nuclear Security Support Centre achieved certification for its learning services.
