Project Description
This project supports capacity-building initiatives directed at strengthening the competency of nuclear security officials. Activities will include: (1) support for the learning services offered by Mexico’s ININ Nuclear Security Training Centre; (2) support for the expansion of the WINS Academy including through developing e-learning modules sponsoring WINS Academy scholarships and funding two interactive theatre events; (3) promoting sustainable Nuclear Security Support Centres; (4) assisting with the research and revision of the WINS Academy module on Cybersecurity for the Nuclear Industry; and (5) support the expansion of the WINS Gender Champions Programme.
Expected Results
The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) nuclear and radiological security capacity building for at risk regions; (2) refinement of the certification and standardization process of becoming a Certified Nuclear Security Professional; (3) enhanced cyber security; (4) an enhancement of the WINS Academy learning experience; (5) increased number of women working in the nuclear security industry; and (6) enhanced opportunity for sustainability of Mexico’s Nuclear Security Support Centre.
Progress & Results Achieved
At project conclusion: Results achieved include: (1) the revision of Technical Document 1734 on establishing a Nuclear Security Support Centre (NSSC) was completed and informed the revision and publication of the World Institute for Nuclear Synergy (WINS) Implementation Handbook: Guidance for Nuclear Security Training Centres; (2) a scoping mission to establish an NSSC in Thailand was completed; (3) train-the trainer courses on radiological security for Mexico's NSSC were delivered; (4) 207 scholarships to the WINS Academy have been provided (of which 157 were assigned to women to encourage gender parity in the industry); (5) webinars on women in armed policing response force and women in cyber security were staged to build awareness of career opportunities for women in nuclear security in order to build gender parity; (6) a repository for fictional characters to assist with WINS learning modules was developed; and (7) the WINS Academy cyber security module was published. Results achieved as of October 2020 include: (1) the revision of Technical Document 1734 on establishing a Nuclear Security Support Centre (NSSC) was completed and informed the revision and publication of the World Institute for Nuclear Synergy (WINS) Implementation Handbook: Guidance for Nuclear Security Training Centres; (2) a scoping mission to establish an NSSC in Thailand was completed; (3) train-the trainer courses on radiological security for Mexico's NSSC were delivered and continue; (4) 188 scholarships to the WINS Academy have been provided (of which 133 were assigned to women to encourage gender parity in the industry); (5) a webinar on women in armed policing was staged in to build awareness of career opportunities for women in nuclear security in order to build gender parity; (6) a repository for fictional characters to assist with WINS learning modules was developed; and (7) the WINS Academy cyber security module is currently under revision.
