Project Description
Canada’s contribution to the Trust Fund aims to support the implementation of the peace agreement and the restoration of state authority in northern Mali. It also aims to strengthen social cohesion with the goal of reducing inter and intra community tensions improving the protection of civilians and contributing to security in northern and central Mali. The Trust Fund for Peace and Security in Mali provides support to Malian-led efforts to resolve the crisis and supports the implementation of the Algiers Peace Process signed in July 2015 by the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA). Progress in implementing the key provisions of the Algiers Agreement has been slow in particular due to ongoing insecurity and armed resistance. The ongoing instability in Mali has significant impacts on the entire Sahel region.
