Project Description
The project aims to strengthen the respect and protection of human rights in Bolivia by supporting the mission of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights in its monitoring documentation reports and technical and strategic advice on the human rights situation in the country with particular attention to the rights of women indigenous Peoples and LGBTQ2 populations among others. Project activities include: (1) documenting and mapping human rights violations; (2) the preparation and publication of clear reports on the human rights situation including an analysis of the differentiated impact on women indigenous Peoples migrants LGBTQ2 people and people deprived of their freedom; (3) provide technical assistance to civil society organizations including women's and Indigenous organizations and LGBTQ2 groups to enhance their capacity to monitor human rights in accordance with relevant international human rights standards; and (4) conduct analysis of patterns of violence and political harassment of women particularly Indigenous women in the electoral context.
Expected Results
The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) strengthened human rights monitoring and enhanced use of international mechanisms for the prevention and protection of human rights with particular consideration for the rights of women Indigenous LGBTQ2 and persons deprived of liberty; (2) enhanced participation and protection of civic space by civil society actors to advance and respond to the rights and needs of the poorest most marginalized and most vulnerable people particularly women Indigenous LGBTQ2 and persons deprived of liberty as well as journalists and human rights defenders.
Progress & Results Achieved
Results achieved as of March 2023 include: (1) supported state institutions continuously to promote independent and transparent investigations of human rights violations; (2) provided technical assistance to prosecutors specifically those centred on international experiences of investigation of serious human rights violations; (3) facilitated an agreement between victims of human rights violations and the government particularly as an observer in the agreement implementation; (4) provided capacity-building workshops for specific groups such as women human rights defenders on issues like political violence against women in the context of local elections; and (5) supported the Gender Committee of the Constitutional Tribunal to ensure proper functioning together with other United Nations organizations (UN) such as United Nation Population Fund (UNFPA) United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and UN Women.
