Project Description
This project works to strengthen the capacity of Global Counterterrorism Forum (GCTF) Sahel Working Group member states to address violent extremism. Project activities include: (1) facilitating the organization of a regional experts’ workshop on best practices to counter violent extremism (CVE) at the community level allowing national practitioners to learn from experts and other countries in developing their own national plans for preventing violent extremism; and (2) facilitating the organization of a concurrent plenary meeting of the Sahel Working Group member states which aims to present recommendations of the experts committee and address the issue of CVE while also providing participants with guidelines and tools for the development of national plans.
Expected Results
The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) increased capacity and guidelines for the Sahel and non-Sahel countries in Africa to develop best national plans for action on preventing violent extremism; (2) increased frameworks and best practices for Sahel and non-Sahel countries in Africa to build capacity in border security judicial and police cooperation terrorist financing and enhancing community engagement; and (3) increased knowledge for policy and lawmakers to address violent extremism in countries within the Sahel.
