Project Description
This project contributes to the African Risk Capacity (ARC) Agency which supports African governments to immediately assist populations affected by extreme weather events and natural disasters such as drought and flooding by improving their capacities to plan prepare and respond to extreme weather events and natural disasters affecting Africa’s populations. Extreme weather events are among the most dramatic consequences of climate variability and change. Vulnerable countries often lack early warning systems and risk information needed for prevention and preparedness. Using climate risk insurance early warning tools and national disaster response plans ARC improves cost-effectiveness of disaster management reduces the loss of productive assets by farmers and decreases the risk of household food insecurity.
Expected Results
The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) improved management of the impacts of natural disasters; (2) increased coverage and sustainability of the insurance program and (3) improved access to innovative tools and insurance products for African countries
