Project Description
This project aims to help reduce maternal neonatal and child mortality through a comprehensive integrated approach that promotes a continuum of care in seven communes in Haiti. This project provides additional funds in response to immediate needs to respond to the coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19). Project activities include: 1) training health staff and increasing supervision of specific procedures related to COVID-19 including prevention measures referral-systems and management of gender-based violence cases; 2) supporting access to mental health services for health workers under stress directly related to the pandemic response; and 3) disseminating information to the public related to COVID-19 using radio sound trucks SMS platforms and social media in partnership with local organizations.
Expected Results
Expected outcomes for this project include: (1) improved delivery of essential health services to mothers pregnant women newborns and children under five; (2) improved utilization of essential health services by mothers pregnant women newborns and children under five; and (3) increased consumption of nutritious foods and supplements by mothers pregnant women newborns and children under five.
Progress & Results Achieved
Results achieved as of the end of the project (June 2021) include: (1) 181 health and non-medical staff (63 men and 118 women) were trained on procedures specific to COVID-19; (2) 190 514 personal protection items including surgical masks N95 masks protective gloves and glasses disinfectants hydroalcoholic gels and infrared thermometers were distributed to address COVID-19 protection needs in the project’s intervention areas; (3) 319 334 people were impacted by gender-based violence prevention awareness and care activities; (4) 321 people (183 women 135 girls and 3 boys) received care following gender-based violence; (5) 258 multi-skilled community health workers (124 women and 134 men) and 464 midwives were trained on COVID 19 risks preventative measures and referral circuits; and (6) 301 providers and multi-skilled community health workers (189 women and 112 men) in 11 institutions were trained on stress management and how to manage psychological distress.
