Project Description

This portion of the larger project works to respond to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic through developing and disseminating information education and communication materials including SMS and pre-recorded radio messages promoting prevention at the community level. This project also aims to procure radio for girls and vulnerable families to ensure that girls can continue with their remote learning. Previously planned community engagement activities have been revised to sensitize key groups to COVID-19 issues. As well construction and rehabilitation activities have been modified to include hand-washing stations in formal and informal school locations.

Expected Results

The expected outcomes for this project include: 1) increased equitable access to safe secure quality inclusive education and learning by girls adolescent girls and women including those with disabilities in crisis- and conflict-affected and fragile situations and humanitarian settings; and 2) improved equitable and coordinated provision of innovative safe quality gender-responsive and evidence-based formal and non-formal education from early childhood to the end of secondary for girls adolescent girls and women including those with disabilities in crisis- and conflict-affected and fragile situations and humanitarian settings.

Progress & Results Achieved

Results achieved as of March 2022 include: (1) distributed 500 radios to 30 safe spaces used for awareness campaigns such as COVID-19 prevention and back-to-school information; (2) held 40 sensitization sessions with parents and community leaders on COVID-19 prevention and symptoms; (3) sent 2 372 COVID-19 prevention messaging via text to community members leaders and parents; and (4) provided 1 650 children and adolescents (of whom 54% are women and girls) with psychosocial support and activities.
