Project Description

This project seeks to engage women in local and national peace processes through increasing the capacity of women and men mediators; building bridges between grassroots women peacebuilders and established women’s groups that are already engaged in national Track I and II of the peace processes; and transforming norms around gender roles. Project activities include: (1) providing training to mediators; (2) organizing inclusive community dialogues; (3) establishing conflict resolution committees; (4) establishing a mentorship program for young women; and (5) conducting a communications campaign. This holistic approach aims to ensure the meaningful participation of a diversity of Yemeni women in peacebuilding and the amplification of their voices into the national peace process.

Expected Results

The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) enhanced gender-inclusive approach and women’s capacity to develop and lead grassroots peacebuilding initiatives; (2) support inclusive and diverse women-led contributions to the national peacebuilding process; and (3) established mainstream positive social norms around women peacebuilders.

Progress & Results Achieved

Results achieved as of May 2022 include: (1) established seven conflict resolution committees to increase community resilience to violent conflict; and (2) trained over 300 women and men mediators to enhance their knowledge on mediation and conflict scans gender and dialogue management.
