Project Description
This project works to undertake research to map formal and informal security structures in Yemen in the governorates of al-Hudayda Ta’iz and one Southern governorate (either Aden or al-Dhali’). The research aims to formulate recommendations on transitional security governance in support of the efforts of the Office of the UN Special Envoy to the Secretary General on Yemen (OSESGY). Project activities include: (1) conducting key informant interviews; (2) undertaking observation; and (3) developing briefing papers focused on formal and informal security institutions at the local level.
Expected Results
The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) enhanced knowledge on the institutional structures capacities and political affiliations of security providers on the local level; and (2) improved ability of the OSESGY to negotiate transitional security governance arrangements that take in consideration the needs of diverse Yemeni women girls men and boys.
Progress & Results Achieved
Result achieved as of March 2021 is the publication of a study of the security governance apparatus in Yemen’s Aden al-Hudayda and Ta’iz governorates.
