Project Description
March 2020 – Following the outbreak of violence in Northern Rakhine State in August 2017 more than 700 000 Rohingya people crossed from Myanmar into Bangladesh over a period of several months. Currently there are approximately 855 000 Rohingya refugees living in 34 highly congested settlements in Cox’s Bazar Bangladesh. The speed and scale of the influx has resulted in significant humanitarian needs. With GAC’s support Médecins Sans Frontières is providing emergency health care for refugees and host communities in Cox’s Bazar with a focus on sexual and reproductive health and rights services. Project activities include: (1) delivering quality and free-of-charge sexual and reproductive health care including antenatal and postnatal care and family planning for pregnant and lactating women; (2) offering maternity services neonatal support paediatric care and 24/7 emergency room services; (3) providing medical treatment for infectious diseases physical injuries and trauma; and (4) conducting community awareness raising sessions on sexual and reproductive health and sexual and gender-based violence.
Expected Results
The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) improved equitable access to sexual and reproductive health services for refugees particularly women and children including survivors of sexual and gender-based violence; and (2) improved equitable access to a comprehensive package of secondary health care services including referrals.
