Project Description

This project aims to provide immediate assistance to conflict-affected communities in Yobe and Adamawa states in northeast Nigeria. Project activities include: (1) improving access to basic health services through the rehabilitation of Primary Health Clinics; and (2) improving diagnostics of key diseases through the improvement of laboratory capacities. This project aims to train 2 000 health workers in 1 000 healthcare facilities reaching an estimated 200 000 beneficiaries.

Expected Results

The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) improved access to basic health services through the rehabilitation of Primary Health Clinics; and (2) improved diagnostics of key diseases through the improvement of laboratory capacities.

Progress & Results Achieved

Results achieved as of the end of the project (June 2019) include: (1) 2 280 health workers in 1 340 healthcare facilities were trained reaching an estimated 284 000 indirect beneficiaries; (2) two primary health centers four primary health clinics and two health posts were rehabilitated and equipped to improve access to health care services for the most vulnerable; (3) the Federal and State Ministries of Health responsible for enhancing disease event and condition surveillance were supported by strengthening the Integrated Disease Surveillance and Response System and transitioning to a computer-based system; and (4) local and mobile laboratory capacities were supported to strengthen timely diagnostics of key diseases and fast turnaround for outbreak alert verification.
