Project Description
This project supports the UN Verification and Inspection Mechanism for Yemen (UNVIM) facilitate the clearance of vessels carrying essential goods including humanitarian cargo destined for Red Sea ports outside of the Government of Yemen control. UNVIM works to review requests from commercial vessels inspects vessels approaching these ports in Djibouti port or conducts inspections in international waters. Project activities include: (1) ensuring that all shipping companies apply for UNVIM clearance which conducts verifications inspections and desk reviews; and (2) ensuring that once a vessel has completed discharge operations in the ports of Hodeidah Saleef and Ras Isa the vessel is inspected again and its hull is scanned before departing the port
Expected Results
The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) regular commercial and humanitarian cargo flows into the country are restored; (2) the Yemeni population gained access to essential goods including humanitarian assistance; and (3) facilitated the implementation of the Hodeida Agreement.
