Project Description
The project supports the local Iraqi police forces by training a core group of police trainers from the governorates of Anbar and Ninewah in policing administration and management driven by data and local knowledge (“knowledge-based policing”). The project works to make local police units more responsive to the needs of the local population through better understanding of local issues operational planning and management of resources. The project aims to provide ongoing mentorship to local police officers from these two governorates including 100 currently active women police officers. The project also works to help refurbish four strategic police stations in both governorates so they can support the implementation of citizen-focused policing in liberated areas.
Expected Results
The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) increased capacity by Iraqi police trainers to deliver knowledge-based policing and police management courses to women and men local police officers in Anbar and Ninewah; (2) increased capacity by women and men local police officers to provide security and policing services in Anbar and Ninewah; and (3) increased access by women girls men and boys to police services in Anbar and Ninewah through fully operational model police stations.
Progress & Results Achieved
Results achieved as of March 2021: (1) increased capacity of Iraqi police trainers to deliver knowledge-based policing and police management courses to women and men local police officers in Iraq; and (2) increased capacity by women and men local police officers to provide security and policing services in Iraq.
