Project Description
The project aims to increase the wellbeing and security of women men boys and girls by clearing explosive hazards in liberated areas of Iraq as well as to increase the participation of women in mine action clearance. Project activities include: (1) conducting explosive hazards clearance operations in the Anbar Province of Iraq in order to release land for women men boys and girls; and (2) actively promoting gender equality in mine action in Iraq in order to increase the participation of women.
Expected Results
The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) increased sustainable voluntary return of women men boys and girls in Anbar; and (2) improved Iraqi women’s participation in mine action operations.
Progress & Results Achieved
Results achieved as of March 2022 include: (1) the release of 1 145 300 square meters of land previously contaminated by explosive hazards; (2) the release of 10 residential buildings for safe use by returning families; and (3) the completion of 36 training sessions on gender mainstreaming for a total of 953 Norwegian People`s Aid (NPA) personnel and other key national stakeholders.
