Project Description
The project supports one of the three Canadian-based Indigenous Permanent Participants of the Arctic Council Inuit Circumpolar Council Canada (ICC) in its engagement in the Arctic Council through participation and consultation within Arctic Council working groups and related activities that work to protect and enhance the lives of Inuit people across the Arctic. Project activities include participation in the Sustainable Development Working Group the Marine Mechanism and the International Symposium on Plastics in the Arctic.
Expected Results
The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) increased engagement of Inuit Circumpolar Council Canada (ICC) in the development of Arctic Council policy discussions; (2) regular contributions to working group projects as well as related council activities; (3) informed regional Inuit organizations in regard to opportunities to engage in circumpolar initiatives; (4) increased participation of Northern youth and communities in the Arctic Council and other events and programs and (5) support to ICC Chair in Alaska and other ICC offices to implement the Utqiagvik Declaration by advising on and contributing to Arctic Council initiatives that affect the different regions in Inuit Nunaat.
