Support to Gwich'in Council International at Arctic Council 2020-2021

The project supports one of the three Canadian-based Indigenous Permanent Participants of the Arctic Council the Gwich'in Council International (GCI) in its engagement in the Arctic Council. GCI participates in the Arctic Council's activities including the Senior Arctic Officials Meetings. In addition GCI participates in and co-leads projects within the Sustainable Development Working Group that aims to advance issues of concern to the Gwich'in Nation notably related to renewable energy health climate change and Indigenous knowledge. It also works to support the continued institutional development of GCI including their Strategic Plan.

The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) GCI leading and participating in Arctic Council projects with the input from Gwich’in communities and partners towards improving the lives of the GCI membership; (2) the development of a strategic plan to support future work; and (3) an enhanced and accessible website.
