Project Description
This project aims to improve peace and stability in areas where the Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue (HD) provides mediation facilitation and dialogue between government authorities and armed groups. The project works to enable HD to fill a gap in the international field of conflict mediation by engaging with actors on issues that are difficult to reach through traditional state diplomacy tools or that fall outside of UN-mandated mediation processes. The project also aims to support the enhanced meaningful participation of women in peace negotiations and create inroads for women’s networks and organizations to have an active role in bringing peace to their regions.
Expected Results
The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) new channels of communication are established between conflict parties; (2) key conflict actors mandate HD to mediate or facilitate; (3) peace agreements and conflict management settlements are signed; (4) violence reduction and humanitarian access agreements are concluded; and (5) increased incorporation of the voices and concerns of women youth and civil society in peace agreements and conflict management settlements/activities.
Progress & Results Achieved
Results achieved as of October 2021 include: (1) signed eight peace and conflict management agreements; (2) mediated two cases of violence reduction or humanitarian access; (3) adopted six interim declarations or commitments to peace processes; and (4) the Humanitarian Dialogue Centre supported two agreements in Libya and Ukraine that included gender-sensitive provisions.
