Project Description
This project aims to continue to strengthen and support the police in the large metropolitan areas as well as to introduce and support police services in the rural areas of Colombia. This project also works to address instability resulting from delays in peace implementation in rural Colombia by developing context analyses and public policy recommendations on rural security. The products developed supports authorities in making informed decisions that respond directly to realities and challenges on the ground. Project activities include: (1) designing and implementing a security management tool for the development of security public policy; (2) providing training to local authorities on using the security management tool; and (3) collecting and analysing information on rural citizen security.
Expected Results
The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) improved knowledge of local authorities on rural security conditions in 20 municipalities of 3 provinces to address security public policies on those areas; and (2) increased awareness and recognition of the importance of public security policies in strengthening rural security governance in 20 municipalities of 3 provinces.
Progress & Results Achieved
Results achieved as of the end of the project (March 2019) include: (1) 140 people (95 men and 45 women) recognized the important role of strong public security policies in strengthening security governance in their municipalities in Colombia; and (2) 20 Colombian mayor that participated in the project consulted a virtual tool developed through this project in working towards improving their security public policies.
