Project Description
Women’s active participation in conflict prevention resolution and peacebuilding presents unique and pivotal opportunities to create transformative solutions and ultimately more inclusive gender equal and peaceful societies. This project aims to sustain and strengthen the impact of women peacebuilders and the work of their organizations in Afghanistan Cameroon Iraq Libya Sri Lanka Syria and Yemen. The project works to directly support grassroots women’s organizations through financial support alongside close mentorship and training to strengthen results in their communities. Project activities include: (1) providing grants to local women-led civil society organizations (CSOs) and capacity building to improve the implementation of their projects in fragile and conflict settings; and (2) supporting the development and dissemination of innovative tools and training increasing the overall capacity of women-led CSOs to contribute toward mediation peacebuilding and support to ongoing peace processes.
Expected Results
The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) improved effectiveness of local women-led CSOs peacebuilding efforts; and (2) improved peacebuilding practice that demonstrates greater responsiveness and inclusion of women peacebuilders globally.
Progress & Results Achieved
Results as of March 2022 include: (1) two additional Innovative Peace Fund (IPF) small grants distributed bringing a total number of grants to 21 disbursed in Afghanistan ); Cameroon 2; Iraq 4 Sri Lanka 1 and Yemen 1 since the beginning of the project in 2020; (2) strategic partner visits to Lebanon and Cameroon to identify institutional and strategic support was undertaken and evidence collection on the short and longer-term impact of the IPF and to provide technical capacity building to partners; (3) publishedthe background paper “Fund Us Like You Want Us to Win ” at the High-Level Meeting on Financing for Peacebuilding; (4) conducted two roundtables discussion for Member States civil society UN International Finance Institutions on barriers to feminist financing for peacebuilding; and (5) provide support through the Better Peace Initiativefor women peacebuilders from Cameroon Syria and Yemen to prepare for and participate in peace negotiations and dialogues.
