Project Description
This project aims to improve access to education and learning opportunities for marginalized and vulnerable out of school children especially girls in South Sudan. Project activities include: (1) establishing 79 community schools in rural and remote communities which provide alternative primary education with a focus on life skills; and (2) providing training to women teachers on child centered gender responsive and inclusive pedagogy psychosocial support and life skills. This project works to directly contribute to Canada’s G7 Charlevoix Declaration on Quality Education for Girls Adolescent Girls and Women in Developing Countries.
Expected Results
The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) increased equitable access to safe secure gender responsive inclusive and quality basic education; (2) reduced socio-cultural barriers to education; and (3) improved coordination and collaboration between state and non-state actors to ensure quality and successful transition to primary or secondary schools.
Progress & Results Achieved
Results achieved at the end of the project (March 2023) include: (1) 6 755 previously out-of-school children enrolled in school in South Sudan of which 61% are girls; (2) 101 learning centres or community schools established in rural or remote communities; and (3) 255 teachers hired and trained to provide a quality and inclusive condensed learning curriculum for marginalized children and youth primarily girls.
