Project Description

This project represent's Canada's contribution to the International Impartial and Independent Mechanism (IIIM). The IIIM established by the United Nations General Assembly in 2016 works to assist in the investigation and prosecution of persons responsible for the most serious crimes under international law in Syria. The IIIM also conducts data collection analysis and preparation of information and evidence for use in eventual prosecution of suspected war criminals.

Expected Results

The expected outcome of this project is increased assurance to ensure that perpetrators of war crimes in the Syrian conflict are indicted by the IIIM and case files are delivered to governments for prosecution under universal jurisdiction or in an appropriately mandated court or tribunal.
