Project Description
March 2019 - An estimated 2.6 million people in Haiti will require humanitarian assistance in 2019 most of them affected by acute food insecurity. The ongoing cholera outbreak also remains a major threat to hundreds of thousands of families. In addition economic fragility and socio-political tensions are affecting the population's ability to access basic services and have contributed to perpetuating a humanitarian crisis. With GAC support Doctors of the World Canada is helping to reduce morbidity and mortality related to the cholera epidemic. Project activities include: 1) providing support for emergency response to cholera outbreaks and the deployment of emergency medical teams; 2) strengthening the capacity of health authorities for the prevention and quality management of diarrheal diseases; 3) strengthening the epidemiological surveillance and early warning system for outbreaks.
Expected Results
The project's expected immediate outcomes include: (1) increased access to timely and quality outbreak management services; and (2) increased capacity for diarrhoeal disease outbreak management and epidemiological surveillance. Expected ultimate outcome: lives saved suffering alleviated and human dignity preserved in countries facing humanitarian crisis or acute food insecurity.
