Project Description
The United Nations (UN) has identified a lack of French language skills as one of the largest capacity gaps within UN peace operations missions. This project represents Canada’s contribution along with other donors to the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) for the implementation of a two-day seminar titled “Francophone Seminar on Peacekeeping” taking place 24-25 June 2019. This seminar is designed to increase understandings of UN peacekeeping contexts and deployment regulations with a goal to increase the number of police and military from francophone African countries to UN peace operations missions.
Expected Results
The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) increased knowledge of the United Nations (UN) peacekeeping environment and processes by decision-makers in francophone African countries; and (2) increased knowledge of the gender dimensions of UN peacekeeping deployments.
