Project Description
The project facilitates Canadian support to the election observation mission of the Russian Federation State Duma on September 18 2016. The mission is managed by the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe's Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights' (OSCE/ODIHR). This project includes the mobilization and secondment of short-term observers. Canadian participation works to broaden the scope of the mission to observe and report on the electoral process and discourage election fraud in the Russian elections. This contributes to higher acceptance of election results among the Russian people.
Expected Results
The expected outcome of this project is increased effectiveness of the Election Observation Mission to gather information analyze and report on the electoral process and outcome of the 2016 Russian State Duma Election including gender aspects.
Progress & Results Achieved
Results achieved as of March 2017 include: (1) increased capacity of the Election Observation Mission to monitor short-term aspects of the Russian State Duma elections; and (2) increased election stakeholder awareness of issues related to the Russian State Duma electoral process including gender aspects.
