Project Description
This project aims to support the expansion of Sentry a life-saving application that helps protect Syrian civilians by warning them about imminent airstrikes. This is a second phase to the project. Project activities include: (1) analysing data from various sources; (2) developing alert messages; and (3) disseminating messages using social media and other peer-to-peer messaging platforms.
Expected Results
The expected outcome of this project is the reduction of civilian deaths injuries and trauma due to aerial strikes.
Progress & Results Achieved
Results achieved as of the end of the project (June 2019) include: (1) 2 100 000 people used the Sentry Early Warning System; (2) 93.5% of the assessed population where the Sentry system was operational were aware of the system; and (3) an estimated 400 people have escaped injury or death as a direct result of access to early warnings generated by the Sentry Early Warning System.
