Project Description

The project aims to increase human security through activities that promote positive practices and enhance the respect for human rights diversity and inclusive governance. Project activities include: (1) providing training on Human Rights monitoring and Safety and Security; (2) developing a topical guidance digital toolkit in the form of a mobile application for Human Rights Defenders; and (3) holding expert meetings on the human rights situation in the target countries. Direct beneficiaries include the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe's participating states: Western Balkans Eastern Europe South Caucasus and Central Asia.

Expected Results

The expected outcomes of this project include: (1) enhanced environment for the defence of human rights; (2) established a human rights compliant and gender-sensitive security sector; and (3) established more inclusive processes and structures for better governance.

Progress & Results Achieved

Results achieved as of June 2019 include: (1) increased capacity of 22 Human Rights Defenders (13 women and 9 men) from Central Asia and the South Caucasus. This is to integrate new technologies in their human rights work and protect themselves from digital attacks; (2) developed a learning-focused introduction to human rights monitoring online game for new Human Rights Defenders; (3) increased the operational capacity of 3 human rights organizations from Central Asia to implement human rights monitoring projects; and (4) increased understanding by police officers state authorities and civil society representatives of sexual and gender-based violence. This is in the United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women Peace and Security.
