Project Description
The project aims to provide mediation between civil society and local administration groups and moderate anti-Daesh armed opposition factions and tribal elders in the eastern region of Syria in order to prepare for stabilization in the country. The project also works to facilitate internal dialogue within these groups observe and direct meetings and connect these groups to regional and Western governments interested in stabilization and countering extremism. Project activities include: (1) facilitating capacity-building sessions; (2) developing options for a vision document on post-Daesh strategy; and (3) presenting ideas and proposals to inform stabilization efforts.
Expected Results
The expected outcome for this project includes: a common vision is developed among civil society and local administration groups moderate anti-Daesh armed opposition factions and tribal leaders in the eastern region of Syria in a post-Daesh phase.
Progress & Results Achieved
Results achieved as of the end of the project (September 2018) include: (1) four rounds of dialogue sessions between local administration civil society and women representatives to share ideas and proposals for a common vision on the stabilization of Eastern Syria were held; (2) three capacity building sessions with Deir ez-Zor women groups to develop tools to effectively engage on stabilization in Eastern Syria and develop proposals were held; and (3) one round of dialogue with opposition groups to agree on a common political representation body and discuss a common political vision was held.
