Project Description
March 2019 - The conflict between the Boko Haram and Nigerian armed forces has been ongoing for over 10 years. Across the three affected states of Adamawa Borno and Yobe approximately 7.1 million people are in need of humanitarian assistance in 2019 out of the total population of 13.4 million. Assistance for basic survival and protection is vital for displaced populations host communities and vulnerable people across north-eastern Nigeria especially in Borno State the epicenter of the crisis. With GAC’s support CARE Canada is helping to assist up to 47 000 conflict-affected people in the Borno state. Project activities include: (1) providing mobile clinics to offer emergency sexual and reproductive health services benefiting up to 30 000 vulnerable people; (2) training of up to 32 healthcare service providers on sexual and reproductive health services in three primary healthcare centers (PHC); (3) providing reproductive health kits and equipment to three PHC including essential medicines contraceptives antibiotics intravenous fluids and delivery beds; (4) distributing delivery kits which contain items required to ensure safe and clean deliveries benefiting up to 8 100 pregnant women; and (5) creating and training three gender-based violence Protection Committees benefiting up to 3 000 people mostly women and children.
Expected Results
The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) increased access to sexual and reproductive health information and services; and (2) increased access of crisis affected population and survivors to gender-based violence protection services.
