Project Description
This project is Canada’s contribution to a multi-laterally funded Election Observation Mission (EOM) of) of the Organisation of American States and it seeks to serve a fundamental role in promoting free and fair elections in Haiti. The mission includes 82 professionals who make up core and mobile groups regional coordinators and long and short term observers. The electoral mission in Haiti focuses on both structural aspects of the process as well as on the voting and counting. The mission pays special attention to issues such as electoral organization the use of technology gender equality and the integrity of the electoral process as a whole. Additionally international observers and coordinators will be deployed in all regions of the country to provide national coverage of the voting and counting process. By participating in electoral observation Canada supports Haiti in conducting free and fair elections and helps ensure that a democratic process is in place in the country.
Expected Results
The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) improved transparency of the electoral process; (2) increased confidence of the Haitian people in their electoral processes; and (3) strengthened democratic institutions involved int the organisation of the electoral process.
