Project Description
The Conference brings together state and non-state actors to sustain attention to the Blue Economy and to advance thinking on how to support developing coastal and small island developing states to sustainably develop marine resources reduce poverty and conserve oceans. Healthy ocean-based economies provide more opportunities for the empowerment and employment of women who comprise the majority of the secondary activities workforce in marine fisheries and aquaculture.
Expected Results
The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) strengthened understanding of the opportunities challenges and priorities for establishing a sustainable blue economy and its contributions to the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development; and (2) a high-level and broad-based commitment by state and non-state actors (enshrined in the Conference Declaration) to integrate the actions identified throughout the Conference to transition to sustainable and inclusive blue economies into national and regional plans.
