Project Description
This project aims to provide support to the Office of the Special Coordinator on Improving the United Nations Response to Sexual Exploitation and Abuse. The special coordinator is mandated to strengthen the coordination of a United Nations (UN) system-wide response to sexual exploitation and abuse. The Special Coordinator focuses on the following: (a) strengthening training for awareness among and individual acknowledgement of personal accountability by all UN personnel; (b) broadening the awareness among communities that host UN sanctioned operations regarding UN standards of conduct and the clear obligation of all personnel to uphold those standards; (c) devising and implementing an improved chain of command accountability policy and process in order to the strengthen the accountability of commanders as well as soldiers in both military contingents and formed police units; (d) strengthening vetting and screening procedures for all UN personnel prior to deployment; and (e) developing the means to track Member State compliance with vetting screening and certifications responsibilities.
Expected Results
The expected outcome for this project includes a measurably strengthened ability of the UN to prevent and respond to incidents of sexual exploitation and abuse by UN personnel and other forces operating under UN mandate.
