Project Description
The project aims to increase the effectiveness of United Nations (UN) peace support operations by improving its ability to protect and support victims of sexual exploitation and abuse. Sexual exploitation and abuse are among the most hindering factors for effective peace support and undermine the trust amongst the host communities towards the UN. The project also seeks to strengthen the collaboration among peacekeeping the UN and local actors in addressing the issue. Project activities include: (1) providing specialized support to complainants victims and children born as a result of sexual exploitation and abuse; (2) engaging in community outreach; (3) addressing service gaps in the provision of assistance and support to complainants victims and children born as a result of sexual exploitation and abuse; and (4) providing additional support and communications for complainants victims and children born as a result of sexual exploitation and abuse.
Expected Results
The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) improved mission effectiveness restored UN credibility and improved ability to carry out the UN security and stabilization mandate; and (2) increased accountability of peacekeepers and UN personnel for their actions.
