Project Description
June 2018 – On August 25 2017 violence broke out in Rakhine State Myanmar resulting in a massive influx of refugees into neighbouring Bangladesh. As of June 14 2018 more than 721 000 women men boys and girls have crossed into the region of Cox’s Bazar Bangladesh. With GAC’s support Save the Children Canada (SCC) and World Vision Canada (WVC) are jointly helping to respond to the immediate needs of refugees in Cox’s Bazar including the specific needs of women and children. Activities include: (1) upgrading and equipping temporary learning centres; (2) training teachers on early childhood care and development and informal education; and (3) providing access to sufficient and quality water sanitation and hygiene facilities.
Expected Results
The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) increased access to gender and age responsive quality education for Rohingya and host community girls and boys; (2) improved access to safe drinking water; and (3) increased access to gender sensitive and culturally appropriate sanitation facilities and hygiene awareness. The expected ultimate outcome is lives saved suffering alleviated and human dignity maintained in countries experiencing humanitarian crisis or that are facing acute food insecurity.
