Project Description
The project aims to reduce and prevent violent conflict in Ninewah by promoting reconciliation. Ninewah is among eastern Mosul cities that were recently liberated from Daesh and are in need of assistance rebuild their communities and stabilize tensions. The project seeks to strengthen the role of leaders and their communities in local conflict management efforts. Activities focus on: (1) enhancing the skills of government religious tribal and community leaders as well as women and youth to de-escalate and resolve violent disputes and peacefully manage conflicts affecting their communities; and (2) increasing mutual trust between displaced people and host communities.
Expected Results
The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) increased capacity of local leaders to address grievances and resolve conflict in liberated areas from Daesh in Ninewah; (2) strengthened trust among members of populations of newly liberated areas from Daesh in Ninewah and in particular between displaced and remaining populations; and (3) enhanced capacity of women and youth in newly liberated areas from Daesh in Ninewah to manage
Progress & Results Achieved
Results achieved as of July 2021 include: (1) re-established crisis management cells in Anbar and Ninewa; (2) increased capacity of CMC to engage and coordinate with national and governorate authorities in Iraq; formation of community and youth action groups to support community social groups; (3) increased capacity of community leaders to resolve disputes in their communities in Anbar and Ninewa; and (4) increased capacity of advocacy groups to influence governorate-level policy in Anbar and Ninewa.
