Project Description
The goal of the project is to address the needs of the United Nations (UN) regional organizations and Member States for training and knowledge-sharing in conflict prevention and mediation. Through the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) the project provides training for diplomats as well as staff of UN organizations and regional organizations to allow them to better understand the causes of conflict how to prevent conflict and how to resolve conflict. UNITAR provides a number of specialized trainings on conflict prevention and mediation including: (1) Regional Training Programme to Enhance Conflict Prevention and Peacemaking in Africa; (2) UNITAR Training Programme in Peacemaking and Preventative Diplomacy for the Asia-Pacific Region; (3) Seminar for Special and Personal Representatives and Envoys of the Secretary-General; (4) Training Programme on Strengthening the Capacity of Women Peacemakers; (5) Séminare de formation sur la prévention le rétablissement et la résolution de la paix à l’intention des pays africains francophones; (6) UNITAR-IPI Fellowship Programme in Peacemaking and Preventative Diplomacy; and (7) UNITAR Training Programme to Enhance Conflict Prevention and Peacemaking Capacities of Indigenous People's Representatives.
Expected Results
The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) improved knowledge and skills from the programme being applied to practice; (2) improved knowledge and skills from the programme applied by female beneficiaries to practice; and (3) strengthened-knowledge based networking amongst Special Representatives of the Secretary General.
