Project Description
The United Nations Trust Facility Supporting Cooperation on Arms Regulation (UNSCAR) is a multi-donor trust fund that provides support on conventional arms regulation. UNSCAR provides project funding to United Nations partners international and regional organizations non-governmental organizations and research institutes to support countries to implement the Arms Trade Treaty (ATT) and the Programme of Action (PoA) on the illicit trade in small arms and light weapons. With the support of Canada and other donors UNSCAR is contributing to more effective implementation of arms regulations. UNSCAR-funded activities include: (1) support to weapons destruction border controls and management of weapons stockpiles; (2) the development and delivery of databases distance-learning workshops implementation tools and guides on arms control legislation; and (3) funding to special-circumstances projects to provide rapid-response to emergency situations.
Expected Results
The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) increased technical and financial support to countries to ratify and implement effective arms regulations; (2) improved control of illicit trade of small arms and light weapons and (3) increased knowledge of the links between effective arms control and sustainable development.
