Project Description
March 2016 - Armed conflict and political instability has impacted over 3 million people across Libya almost half the population of the country. An estimated 2.44 million people are in need of protection and some form of humanitarian assistance. An estimated 435 000 people have fled their homes in search of safety and security due to armed conflict and escalating violence. Humanitarian access to conflict-affected populations is severely limited due to fighting between different armed groups. There are an estimated 250 000 refugees asylum-seekers and migrants in Libya which are facing significant protection concerns with their status making them particularly vulnerable to abuse marginalization and exploitation. Over 2 748 people have lost their lives in 2015 trying to cross the Mediterranean to reach Europe. With GAC’s support the Agency for Technical Cooperation and Development (ACTED) is providing emergency cash assistance for up to 5 000 vulnerable individuals. Project activities include: (1) identifying the most vulnerable households; (2) defining cash assistance distribution modalities; (3) distributing multi-purpose emergency cash assistance to 1 000 of the most vulnerable households; and (4) implementing a monitoring and follow-up system.
Expected Results
The expected immediate outcome for this project is: (1) increased access to essential relief items. The expected ultimate outcome is lives saved suffering alleviated and human dignity maintained in countries experiencing humanitarian crises or acute food insecurity.
