Myanmar - Emergency Health Care to Vulnerable Populations - Doctors Without Borders Canada 2017

March 2017 – Since the signing of the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement in October 2015 Myanmar has taken significant strides towards peace. However conflict prolonged displacement and continued inter-communal tensions in addition to the country’s vulnerability to natural disasters result in significant humanitarian needs that continue in 2017. In total an estimated 525 000 people will be in need of humanitarian assistance this year. With GAC’s support Doctors Without Borders Canada is increasing access to emergency health care to vulnerable populations. Project activities include: (1) providing primary health care services including through out-patient consultations and services to up to 75 000 people (2) providing emergency lifesaving referrals to up to 1 800 patients; and (3) providing maternal and reproductive health services to up to 5 500 women.

The expected outcome for this project is reduced vulnerability of crisis-affected people especially women and children in Rakhine State Myanmar. The expected ultimate outcome is lives saved suffering alleviated and human dignity maintained in countries experiencing humanitarian crises or acute food insecurity.
