Project Description
This project is Canada’s contribution to a multilaterally funded Election Observation Mission (EOM) of) of the Organisation of American States and it seeks to serve a fundamental role in promoting free and fair legislative elections in Colombia. The mission includes 13 international specialists in various areas for the study and analysis of specific elements of the electoral process.
Expected Results
The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) issuing a press statement following each electoral event; (2) preparing a formal report to be presented to the OAS Permanent Council including observations and recommendations; (3) sharing the report findings and recommendations with the Government of Colombia; and (4) making the report public via the OAS website.
Progress & Results Achieved
Results achieved as of the end of the project (March 2019) include: (1) deployment of a mission of 20 international observers to seven departments of the country for the legislative elections held on March 11 2018; (2) deployment of a mission of 20 international observers to observe two inter-party consultations held at the same time; (3) documentation from the mission were published on line through a Preliminary Report following the March elections and in a Final Report following subsequent Presidential elections and run-off elections.
