Project Description
This initiative seeks to support conflict transformation and good governance through building trust dialogue and accountability between conflict affected communities security forces and local authorities in Mali. The project focuses on eight targeted areas across the regions of Mopti Segou and Timbuktu central and northern Mali. It is expected that this project indirectly contributes to a reduction in the threat from criminality political and extremist violence in the targeted regions.
Expected Results
The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) increased understanding by communities local authorities and security forces of conflict dynamics in target areas and of their own roles and responsibilities in those dynamics (2) improved understanding by communities local authorities and security forces of the link between extremist violence and political social and economic grievances and (3) improved understanding by communities local authorities and security forces of the importance of and the mechanisms available for coordination and inclusive mutual effective engagement that actively includes women girls and youth.
Progress & Results Achieved
Results achieved as of March 2021 include: (1) 26% of project participants feel safe; (2) the rate of people who feel safe increased from 9% in April 2018 to 26% in (month) 2020 up by 17%; (3) the implementation of 37 peacebuilding initiatives each based on a local conflict analysis in the project’s intervention areas; (4) the dialogue sessions were attended by 569 people among whom 197 were women and 372 men (including 20 men from the defence and security forces); (5) a total of 112 dialogue sessions were held at a local level including 40 in the Mopti region 32 in the Ségou region and 40 in the Timbuktu region; and (6) a total of 9 dialogue sessions 3 in each region were organized by women’s forums.
