Project Description
The project aims to implement a peacebuilding programme focused on empowering South Sudanese communities to be the primary drivers and owners of their own peace process. Project activities include: (1) performing research; (2) developing policy programmes that seek to analyze the conflict in South Sudan; and (3) providing policy and decision makers with effective and sustainable options for engagement on stabilization and transformation processes.
Expected Results
The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) more effective local internally-owned and sustainable peacebuilding processes; (2) more civil society engagement in peace and transformation processes; and (3) improved policy and decision making by international and domestic actors.
Progress & Results Achieved
Results achieved as of October 2019 include: (1) supported efforts towards sustainable peace and transformation processes in South Sudan through promoting effective local internally-owned and sustainable peacebuilding processes. Two peacebuilding processes at the national level promoting internally owned processes perceived were as effective: the episcopal church of South Sudan (ECSS) mediation and diplomacy engagement and the South Sudanese Council of Church (SSCC) reconciliation for political and military leader; (2) survey results recorded to assess the effectiveness of the project note results that started with indicators at a 0% baseline and exceeded their project targets; (3) key results include 80% of grassroots stakeholder consultations perceived as effective; (4) 18 civil society organisations report greater strategic participation as a result of the project 81% reported improved engagement in policy and decision-making processes; (5) 100% of partners reported improved dialogue because of Justice Africa’s support; (6) 76% of civic actors stated increased capacity of local actors to initiate and implement effective and sustainable peace processes; (7) 86% church leaders and civil society members including women and youth surveyed report improvement in influence and strategic engagement in national level peace processes; (8) 90% reported increased space for dialogue problem solving and reconciliation at the national level were created by civil society and church leaders; (9) 80% of civil society actors report increased capacity to think strategically and engage in peacebuilding and transformation processes 48% reported being more feeling more informed about the realities on the ground; and (10) 52% of those surveyed indicated that appropriate effective and evidence-based policy recommendations were developed.
