Project Description
This project supports the Truth Justice and Reconciliation Commission (CVJR) in order to implement the priority areas of its response strategy and action plan for stabilization in Mali. The initiative is aimed at building the CVJR’s capacities especially those of the units responsible for truth seeking and investigations supporting victims and repairs gender-related issues studies documentation and publications. The CVJR is therefore better equipped to prepare a final report and to make recommendations based on sound methodologies and rigorous preliminary investigations analyses and studies. The project supports the implementation of the Algiers Peace Agreement and complements the role played by the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali in its efforts with the CVJR.
Expected Results
The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) the CVJR is better equipped to propose measures to the government to repair the harm suffered by victims of serious human rights violations especially women girls and other people in vulnerable situations and to prevent the resurgence of conflicts in the future; (2) the CVJR has increased capacities to investigate and shed light on the human rights violations committed during conflicts including gender based violence; (3) the CVJR has increased institutional capacities notably in terms of protecting testimonies and other data collected with regard to the serious human rights violations committed during conflicts; and (4) the relationship of trust between the CVJR and the victims of serious human rights violations committed during conflicts especially women and girls who suffered gender based violence has improved to facilitate participation in investigations hearings and other work performed by the CVJR.
