Project Description

This initiative seeks to close existing gaps between demand from non-governmental organizations communities and citizens for services and supply by governments of services through the use of integrated technologies. This project focuses on women and marginalized groups to increase their access to and skills in using technology and supports them in developing the leadership capacities necessary to use integrated technologies effectively to voice their concerns collectively and to influence decision-making within government structures at the local and national levels. Project activities include: (1) capacity building through training coaching and technical support; (2) developing and/or adapting specific technological mechanisms and tools (for example mobile applications); (3) establishing infrastructure technology facilities namely techno hubs at the national district and local levels to facilitate information sharing; and (4) implementing an awareness campaign on the importance of civic engagement and participatory monitoring of public service delivery.

Expected Results

The expected outcomes for this project include: (1) enhanced equitable and inclusive participation in democratic decision-making processes especially by women and marginalized groups through the use of technology; (2) increased use of technology by people especially women and marginalized groups to hold their governments to account; and (3) increased responsiveness of public institutions to the diverse needs and rights of people especially women and marginalized groups through the use of technology.

Progress & Results Achieved

Results achieved as of the end of the project (September 2021) include: (1) 104 civil society organizations (CSOs) participated in the decision-making process through technology. They have increased their knowledge of integrated technologies in trainings and workshops. Also 1 633 citizens 1 097 women ( 137 from marginalized groups) participated in awareness events on the use of integrated technology and its role in the decision-making process; (2) 95 303 citizens use integrated technology to hold their local government accountable (56 021 are women and 13 838 are from marginalized groups); (3) created 41 TechnoHub locations where citizens can actively learn and participate in local government activities; and (4) public institutions implemented eight initiatives through the use of technology to address barriers faced by women men and marginalized groups in accessing public data.
